Halo 3 ODST – Different Perspective But Still Great Game Play

Halo 3 ODST, the prequel campaign between Halo 2 and Halo 3, offers users the unique opportunity to take on Covenant forces as a rookie Orbital Drop Shock Trooper rather than the head honcho Master Chief. Although the rookie characters are smaller- about the size of the grunts that the Master Chief towers over- and have fewer armor and weapon choices than offered in previous games, they still hold their own in battle and get the job done.

Halo 3 ODST mainly encompasses street scenes in the city of New Mombasa. Rookies seek out beaconed items abandoned by missing members of their squad. Once located, the rookies are transported to the last fought location, an abandoned police station turned into a weapons cache. One unique scene, depicted in the trailer, shows a rookie verses a canceled match that happens to come face to face with an injured squad member. The rookie is overcome with emotion and responsibility, and he wrestles with the rifle to protect the injured astronaut.

Another new addition to Halo 3 ODST is the Spartan Jump, a feature that sends players into a high-altitude jump from a lower elevation into the sky. Once in the air, players perform different evasive maneuvers based on the amount of time left on their area-markers or prematurely launched jump packs. Evasion moves are executed as quickly as possible, as time underestimated in the rush to boot or jump packs can prove costly. Players can remain in the air for a time or up to three minutes before reappearing back down to the ground, where they are safe from enemy fire.

To boost their profile, Halo 3 ODST players are encouraged to go into the space of the HUD when playing ODST. This “lds_tool” feature allows the player to customize a variety of improvements to the player’s performance in battle, such as increased sprint time, recharging health and plasma pistol recharging time, and much more. Players are encouraged to get into the battlefield and fight the enemy as best they can. In addition to new weapons, players will also be able to take advantage of features that are new to the Halo series, such as the new muffler soundtrack, and the ability to have a maximum of two weapons equipped at once. In addition to the 50 kills required to unlock the smg perk, players will now be able to take up the assault gunzer0rd perk as well. The assault gunzer0rd perk equips the assault rifle with rapid fire that lasts at close range. Players will also be able to unlock weapon tags that are specific to each weapon, allowing players to customize their weapon load outs. Weapon tags will allow players to name and identify specific weapons, increasing the weapon’s stats, including damage, fire rate, accuracy, range, and so forth. Halo 3 ODST players will also have the ability to take advantage of the new legacy system, which allows the player to continue their character from a previous Halo 3 game. In replaying a previous game through the legacy mode, players will unlock achievements and rewards that previous players would have gotten.

The legacy system will allow players to continue their Halo 3 experience in a different manner. There will be many new achievements and rewards, including new armor and weapon skins. These new achievements will be unlockable from play through the new legacy system. There is also a new Halo 3 campaign guide being included with this game, which will be greatly beneficial to new players.

Halo 3 ODST, the prequel campaign between Halo 3 and Halo 2, brings a new perspective to the Halo universe. It keeps lore and continuity but offers new challenges and characters, too. This Halo 3 ODST campaign adds new elements to the Halo universe, keeping intact the series’ popular elements while introducing new elements.
